POS system — Hospitality

What does your till actually need to do?

A POS system built for hospitality service — table or counter, quick turnaround or full table service — rather than one adapted from retail and hoping for the best.

Staff logins and clock-in? QR code ordering and payment at the table? Orders from your website or a delivery app landing straight in the same system? Or just a simple counter setup with loyalty and the odd discount? Some businesses need all of it. Most need less than they think.

Most restaurant and café owners we talk to picked their first system on price, or because it looked right in a demo — then found out on a Friday night rush what it couldn't do. A system built for quick takeaway struggles with table service and split bills. A system adapted from retail won't send orders to the kitchen or handle allergen prompts properly. And if your connection drops mid-service, some systems just stop working.

The pattern we see

01 Chosen on price, not fit Works fine until service actually gets busy.
02 Nothing talks to each other Website, delivery apps and the till live separately, so someone re-types every order.
03 No offline cover A dropped connection shouldn't mean a dead till.
04 Service basics bolted on badly Staff clock-in, allergen prompts and split bills missing, or awkward in practice.

We start with how your service actually runs — table service, counter, quick turnaround, or a mix — then match you to a system built for hospitality, not adapted from something else.

Common questions

POS and till system questions

What's the difference between a till and an EPOS system? A till records the sale and holds the cash. An EPOS system also tracks stock, staff, tables or customers, and reports on all of it. If you only need to take money, a till is enough — most growing businesses outgrow that within a year.
Can my POS integrate with Xero, Sage or QuickBooks? Most modern systems can, but the depth varies a lot — some push a daily sales total, others sync line-by-line with tax codes. Worth checking before you commit, because it's the difference between an hour a month and a morning.
Will it keep working if the internet goes down? Some do, some don't — and it's rarely front-and-centre in the sales pitch. We always ask this on your behalf, because a dead till during service is far more expensive than a slightly higher monthly fee.
Do I have to change my card machine too? Not always, but a linked terminal means the amount is sent to the card machine automatically — no mis-keyed totals, one reconciliation instead of two. We look at both together. See card terminals →
